Brief: Create a custom wedding collection and custom bridal shower collection that consists of hand painted essentials for the day of the event.

The goal of my Self Authorship was to create custom essentials for two different events that will make the day extra special, memorable and personalized.

The Wedding collection consists of a welcome sign, seating chart, bar menu sign, and table numbers. The style of this collection is natural, romantic minimalism through bold uses of stained wood and white hand lettering. I designed the seating chart in a way that would allow it to be rented and used more than once. The acrylic sheets can be removed or added based on the number of tables, and the title can be customized, as well.

The Bridal Shower Collection consists of a welcome sign, “let love grow” sign, and succulent favors. The style of this collection is simple spring minimalism through the use of stained wood, chalkboard signs, and succulent accents. The “let love grow” sign is an item that the bride will be able to keep to remember the special day, similar to the way the guests can take a “let love grow” succulent home.

The Process: I began by sketching all of the signs and essentials on my iPad to figure out the layouts and sizing. After, I hand lettered a final design for each item in procreate. The next step consisted of finding the wood for each item and cutting them to size. My (amazing) grandpa helped me cut each piece (including the acrylic) and I stained every piece with an aged barrel stain. Next, I transferred the designs onto the wood by printing out the designs, laying white transfer paper over the wood and under the printed designs, and traced over it. I used oil based paint markers on the acrylic and wood signs and chalkboard paint pens on the chalkboard sign. For the seating chart, I used the hand lettered font that I created to lay out each name, and then printed it out and laid it under the acrylic sheet as a guide.
